I got proposed to on 10th of August 2012.
Prior to that, Patrik, who never fails to spoil me, asked me what kind of ring I would like. Without hesitation, I told him, I knew I want a heart shaped diamond. The heart shaped diamond is essentially a pear-shaped diamond with a cleft at the top and the diamond itself is is considered by some to be the most romantic of all diamond cuts.
It is difficult to buy heart shaped diamond rings in Singapore. Of all the shops I went to, only love & co has the most number of heart shaped diamond, but their spects are not good.
I only had a budget of 4k from Patrik, which is generous in my opinion. Yet, it can only buy a 0.4ct
not-so-good spects heart shaped diamond from love & co. Note that most of their heart diamond comes with IGI cert instead of GIA cert, which again could ranked 2 ranks lower compared to a GIA cert.
Hence, the search begins:
1) within budget
2) ideal cut, excellent polish, VG symmetry, 0.9 ratio, minimum of F colour, VS2
3) GIA cert
Sooo, after many many research and emails, I finally found my ideal diamond!!

I did not plan to "upgrade" because I believe there is more meaning attached to a proposal ring and it is for a lifetime. So I ended up with a sizable one. Extremely contented.
With the budget in mind, I got my ring from here.
0.72 ct
EX cut
EX polish
VG symmetry
F colour
VS2
0.9 ratio
GIA cert
I sort of exceeded the budget because it ended up a little over 4.4k after being taxed GST and shipping. I tried to justify its value by stating that I will wear it everyday and I am keeping to the promise still. Also, I can never get this kind of value through buying from Singapore brick and mortar shops as they will have to pay for their shop rent and advertisements. Thus, it is really value for money to get it directly from the US.
We also went to Far East Plaza to get the diamond verified by Nanyang Gemological Institution and good news to all, it is legit. So no worries from buying from the site. :)
Patrik kept the ring from me afterwards and kept insisting that it will not be so soon. I was getting anxious as I super love my ring. So that fateful day came, as I was using my Internet and just reading off some article, I received a phone call at 12am, wishing me a happy 43rd monthniversary and asking me to look down from the window.
It was A+ effort for him, forming the words 'Marry ME' from thousands of petals that he bought off eBay.
As he knelt down and asked for my hand, I remembered I was too surprised at this gesture of him and all I could utter is, "Ok lor." and the rest is history.
Happily engaged since 10/01/2012.
